Wind farm development generally involves eight different steps. The first four steps (pre-feasibility analysis, wind monitoring, site design and layout, and feasibility studies) take on average 1-2 years to complete, while the next four steps (final project design,is consists of a high level review of the potential of the wind resource, access to the electricity transmission grid, estimate of the expected capital costs and identifies any significant potential obstacles to the construction of the wind farm. financing, construction and operation) may take another 2-3 years (mainly depending on turbine choice and availability).
Xenerco can provide small developers, landowners and corporations with support at any stage of the wind farm development process, providing a range of services for its customers.
1 Pre-Feasibility Analysis:
This analysis consists of a high level review of the potential of the wind resource, access to the electricity transmission grid, estimate of the expected capital costs and identifies any significant potential obstacles to the construction of the wind farm.
2 Wind Monitoring:
Xenerco uses the latest industry standards to determine wind potential and commercial feasibility of a wind farm project. This is done trough a wind monitoring program that involves installing one or more wind monitoring towers to collect information on wind speed, wind direction, barometric pressure and temperature. Wind monitoring programs collect data for at least 1-2 years; nevertheless we recommend that wind measurements continue to be taken throughout the total development process of the project.
3 Site Design and Layout:
As important as wind measurements are, site design and layout are key in ensuring that the generation capacity of the project is maximized.
4 Feasibility Studies:
To determine the technical and commercial viability of the wind farm, a series of studies need to be conducted, these consider:
- Grid connection assessment
- Site mapping
- Electrical and mechanical engineering
- Zoning and permitting
- Environmental impact assessment
5 Operation:
Operation of a wind farm is a relatively simple process requiring only regular maintenance and occasional repair of turbines, a process that Xenerco is capable of delivering.
